BREAKING: Canada Unveils New Immigration Pathway for Doctors — 5,000 Extra Spots + Fast-Track Permits!

(3107 Views)

The Canadian government has just announced major new immigration measures to tackle the nationwide shortage of physicians.

1️⃣ New Express Entry Category for Doctors
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will introduce a new Express Entry stream specifically for internationally trained doctors who have:
• At least one year of Canadian work experience
• Experience in an eligible medical occupation within the last three years
Invitations under this category are expected to start in early 2026.

2️⃣ Additional 5,000 Federal Spaces for Doctor Nominations
The government is adding 5,000 extra federal admission spaces for provinces and territories to nominate licensed doctors with job offers — beyond current PNP allocations.

3️⃣ 14-Day Fast-Track Work Permit Processing
Doctors nominated through this pathway will receive expedited 14-day work permit processing, allowing them to begin working immediately while their PR application is finalized.

Overall Impact
These targeted measures aim to fill critical labour shortages, strengthen the healthcare workforce, and make it easier for practice-ready international doctors already in Canada to obtain permanent residency. The goal is to stabilize staffing levels and reduce patient wait times across the country.
